You wonder what is a blog. You’ve felt it and even aware some people are making great money, achieving decent living from it. Likewise, making our world better but you still wonder, what is a blog.
This is absolutely what this post will be about.
What is a blog, my definition and meaning from experiences, likewise; what some other scholars feel it should be, and how it emanated.
Importantly, how you can make consistent money from it, which might give you the life you wanted.
Why the meaning might be so important
This is common sense … ..
Before you start a blog, it’s smart you understand it meaning, at least acquits youself with foundational knowledge in order to navigate your way to success and greatness.
Your knowledge as a practitioner will help in checking yourself if truly you’re operating it well and effectively and as a newbie, it’ll enable you to understand the task ahead and help with decision making whether this is a job you should take or NOT.
I’ve been through many things about making money online especially affiliate marketing which involves selling another company or an individual product and services.
There is no way you can sell online without shouting to your target audience, “This is what I’ve for you, come and buy or take a sample look”.
In the process, the more traffic and views you’re getting, the better and you’ll be making cool money and growing your business through helpful services.
One of the best platforms for spreading your message is the art of blogging.
That’s how serious is it …
What experts think about a blog?
Amy Lynn says Blogs are the new resume, the new business card, the new marketing brochure or advertising billboard and they’re quickly becoming a source of excellent income for many.
Neil Patel thinks A blog is a channel where you share your thoughts.
Corbett Barr: Blog is a place for sharing knowledge and views, and for connecting with people.
Greg Narayan: A blog is whatever you make it! This can be a personal journal to share stories about life, food, travels, and other adventures with your close friends and family …
Rand Fishkin: A blog is more than just a place to post new content on a regular (or, lately, semi-regular) basis. It’s a hub for people to share their thoughts around my contributions to the industry.
Adam Connell: Blog is an online journal to put our thoughts – nothing more and typically they would be read by friends & family.
Marko Saric: A blog is whatever you want it to be or whatever you make it be.
Ian Cleary: A blog is a magnet that attracts your potential customers if you write high-quality relevant content and finally; I think of a Blog as a social platform for expressing your thoughts about a subject with result–oriented.
I hope you can understand the drift about what blog is?
It’s a platform for socializing about a subject(s) which must have an end result or goal in place.
What brings about the word Blog?
A blog is a name derived from these 2 words; a web and a log.
A web is a large collection of your documents which can be in texts, articles, audios, images, and videos stored on your computer system and connected to the internet for public and worldwide accessibility.
A log is a detailed record of events and activities that are occurring consistently as they came to live which can be documented and recorded daily, weekly, and monthly depending on the subject matter.
For example: if your blog subject is about sports news, you’ve to be recording sports events every day or weekly; depending on the specific aspect of sports news you want to focus your strength perhaps biking or football.
From my explanation of those 2 words, you should start having the feeling and an idea of what a BLOG [We|B(log)] could be.
By my definition with an explanation
A blog is an art of keeping records of events based on a specific subject matter which can be daily, weekly or monthly, in the form of documents (text), pictures, sounds (podcast) and videos (vlogging) which are stored on your computer using the internet to publish it for the entire world to see.
In the context of “art” and “computer”
By an “art of keeping records”; it means you have to be skillful in your writing, designing attractive images, creating and presentation of your videos and audios.
Nobody was innately gifted with writing skills, designing images, creating videos and all. Every great blogger you know started from somewhere, they build on it, keep fighting and practicing to improve their performance especially, marketing of their subject, what their blog stands for and they’re making a decent living and positive impact out of it.
You’ve to keep learning every time through practice and if you don’t like it, hire someone to create your content or you form a team if you have the capital to start way.
Whatever format (posts, videos, and podcasts) you intend to use to communicate to your target audience, it has to be remarkable.
By your “computer”, it means the storage place where all your documents, pictures, sound are safely stored for the world to view at any time.
What makes your information easily accessible worldwide?
The platform that stores your content is similar to a notebook. This is where you write all your remarkable daily events and achievement for storage and personal purpose.
What if you want the world to know about it?
You want a large stream of people to be reading, listening, watching and engaging with your content.
This is where the internet comes in handy.
The word “internet” was coined from the word “internetworking” which is a system that connects computer together with the aid of a standard internet protocol (IP) to serve many users worldwide.
Your laptop, smartphone or the tablet you’re using to surf for information on the web is considered a computer.
The various websites you’re surfing every day and now, the likes of Facebook and Twitter and all other websites these social networks communities are linking you too are computers.
They are establish using computers and they have an internet protocol (IP) standard enough to serve people across the world; thereby fulfilling your information and communication needs and ultimately, helping in solving our social problems such as selling yourself or business fast and easy.
This is where your blogging business operations come at play. It’ll disseminate your information and gives you an enormous opportunity for millions of people to view, read, and engage with your message.
Blog as a conversation language and the sense of its meaning
Over time, the word blogging has lived up to a meaning which is making sense.
It’s a verb which means in the blogosphere “to keep maintaining or adding content to your blog”.
It also means “to edit one’s blog or to post to one’s blog“.
For example: have you blog today? Meaning: Have you publish a new content today?
How can you make money blogging?
a. Choose your subject matter carefully
This starts with your mind, your mental attitude and loves to take duties and responsibilities for this new job, writing about this subject matter of yours.
It’s better you start with a specific subject that is well focused, that you can build expertise and authority over time because what you’ll be competing for with others in your marketplace is information.
Your information has to be unique, quality, well-research, filled with integrity and remarkable in order to remain relevant in your industry and keep generating steady income flow.
Let’s assume your subject is fashion. You’ve to think deep, take a critical decision before starting your blog by choosing a specialization within your subject you feel you will perform better and excel as one of the top players in that sector in the fashion industry with consideration to your target location and audience.
Fashion subject can be designs, styling, traditional and cultural wears, bags, footwear, jewelry, beads and etc.
Just meditate on it before you kick-start.
b. Make sure you have an audience.
“Let me have your audience pls”
Imagine a speaker making such a statement, it shows audience isn’t following; the whole activities building-up towards that moment will be useless and fruitless.
In addition to subject specialization, make sure there is great demand for that subject from people who will automatically become your final consumer and fans.
You’ve to carry out feasibility research to ascertain people are already paying for it or are willing to pay.
If someone is already making money from it, that’s a clear sign you’ll make yours as you make your unique contribution to the industry.
c. Choose your blogging platform
With the affirmation of your subject matter, choose a blogging publishing platform you can start with such as Blogger, WordPress, start writing and publishing your original quality content that meets the demand for your title and ultimately, your audience.
d. Build relationship and community
Blogging is a social and interactive affair. Use the operation to build a mutual relationship and trust with your target audience. This act might not be easy to achieve but it’s golden …..
It’ll enable you to discover what they truly want and you provide it for them with maximum satisfaction both free and as premium.
e. Promote your blog
Always promote your blog and even invest in a paid advertisement to keep increasing the views to your target audience.
If you follow these tips, you’ll excel with your blogging venture and career.
Whether as small, medium or large scale business owner; individuals, government, and non-governmental organizations, you can harness the power of blogging in achieving your organization aim and objectives.
Many of your competitors are already doing it, reaping its benefits and increasing their market share both in wealth, prestige, and fame.
Can you afford to be left out of the race?
Now to you
What meaning do you think a blog is, share it no matter how weird you might think?
Can you take up the responsibility of blogging?
And if you’ve been blogging, has the meaning influence you to be better?
