Whether you’re thinking of starting a blog or you’ve already started.
Perhaps, you’re still learning blogging principles to strategies better for your blog start-up?
Well … .. .
Feeding your heart with the kind of blogs you can start with is not a waste of time.
You can either start as a single or multi-author but, they all come with their advantages and disadvantages.
What is single-author blog
Like its name implies, this kind of blog is operated by one person, like how billblogger is currently being operated and managed by me.
Features of a single-author blog
a. It mostly covers a single subject to a few thereby making it well-focus with lots of content.
b. It enables search engines to quickly understand what the blog is really all about which helps it ranking.
c. The writer is most likely the owner, sole administrator, and controller of the blog which makes management and decision-making easy.
d. The blog is easy to establish and launch due to decision-making, low-budget and it’s the most popular blog in terms of count.
e. If the blog is successful, the author can easily be determined as the brain behind it; likewise, if otherwise.
Its advantage is, a single-author blog tends to have the sense of personal touch and feeling with readers through relationship building which might be stronger and this increases trust.
The major disadvantages are:
a. Single author blogs don’t publish always and frequently because it takes much time to create original and quality content, design all the images, videos and even publish it to a standard level of user experience.
b. The design outlook of the most single-author blog is poor or fair due to low-budget and most don’t consider the outlook important.
c. Being a one-man show, the risk can be high and you bear it all alone. In addition, the lifespan of most single-author can be short if the blogger is no more due to inevitable causes.
Thus, if a single-author blog is what you like to start with, do it, later, you can gravitate towards multi-author blog if you like it as billblogger is building towards that in the future.
What’s multi-author blog
This kind of blog is written and/or established by 2 or more authors.
It’s managed by a team of people who constitute an editorial and publishing board.
Most large corporate organization and government institutions operate multi-author blog than an individual.
Though some individuals have solely founded a multi-author blog which requires a huge budget and the quality of their contents are usually high which pass through so many heads such as editorial department, to research department, graphic, marketing and etc.
A multi-author blog can be considered a professional blog with features such as better design outlook and lots of subjects it covers which makes it a large publishing entity with the diverse information you can devour, huge readership, and followers.
It is mostly operated by daily news publishing firm, universities, think tank group and community, an advocacy group, non-government organization and etc.
Its advantages are:
a. It generates lots of traffic, views, and popularity because of the diverse information and frequency at which content is being published perhaps daily thereby making readers to stick around for more information because of its consistency.
b. Each author has its own writing style and mode of delivering a message which might endear some followership and this is a goldmine for an author having followership and raving fans.
c. Multi-author blogs can have a list of authoritative writers if it’s well-structured that way which makes it a great advantage and feat because lots of factors are being considered in achieving it.
Nevertheless, most single-author blogs have always been the go-to getter for an authoritative information and advice.
c. It makes the founder carry out other responsibilities with great strength.
The major disadvantages are:
a. It covers a lot of subjects which many of its authors can’t establish themselves as an authority over time due to competition in the field and can’t compete favorably with a single-author blog who have built it blog over time to an authority level.
In addition, due to being a multi-author blog that covers lots of subjects, it might hurt search engines optimization ranking (SEO) where the engine can’t figure out what really the blog is into most especially if the subject is highly competitive.
b. With multi-author blogs, you might never know who truly contributed to its success or failure.
Who is working and who is not?
c. Multi-author blog can’t be determined by the views of each author even if you carry out a readership survey which might not accurate and hard to justify.
Factors that can result in the kind of blog you start
1. Low budget
If you’re just starting out and on a low-budget, you might decide to start something as a single-author blog rather doing nothing about a dream which I term dead.
Gradually, you can employ more qualified writers or form partnership with other established great writers if expansion to multi-author blog is your future plan.
Your initial concept for blog start-up based on its subject, mission, and vision can influence your choice.
You might want to start a blog about your career for example dental care and you need a few of your colleagues in the field to unite together for the blog project.
In that wise, multi-author blog will be created.
As a business organization working to fulfill your goals, you can embrace blogging as an effective information and communication platform to bridge the gap between your brands and customers, build relationship and achieve all your objectives.
Multi-author blog will definitely be the kind of blog to be established because it will be composed of writers and content developers in their unique field.
They’ll form a team that cut across various departments such as sales & marketing, technical, research & development, product, brand, public relation to customer services department.
For an advocacy group with specific aim and objectives, the single-author blog might be established and gradually, with interested members who like what you’re doing, they can apply to join based on the group terms and condition and its policy.
With this, you’ve gravitated towards multi-author blog.
If you decide to establish a personal blog and brand based on your personal experiences, teaching others about a subject you love, your traveling adventure or your journey towards achieving a specific tough goal, a single-author blog will most likely be the right choice.
Nobody can express such events and actions as accurately as you.
To draw up the curtain
I believe you’ve understood the major kind of blog in the blogosphere, their differences, benefits, likely problems that might emanate and ultimately what can help you make the right decision and choices to better strategise your blog start-up.
Despite all the goodies and problems single and multi-authors blog possess, i believe no one is a winner.
Like i hinted, i’ll like to deviate towards multi-author blog as billblogger expand or what do you think?
Remember, your choice to success is in your control and power.
